Hi! I’m Allie. I am a journalist and team leader with years of versatile newsroom experience.

As an economy reporter at Business Insider, I cover how policy shapes everyday life. I writes about social safety nets — including Medicaid, Social Security, and SNAP — and how these programs shape the food people eat and the healthcare they receive.

My latest project, The True Cost of Young Cancer, is an investigation into rising cancer cases in young adults and how the disease upends a patient’s career, relationships, and financial stability. I also co-reported a series on America’s retirement crisis, drawing on interviews with hundreds of seniors about money and loneliness. My daily reporting follows the Federal Reserve, the labor market, and the government workforce.

My work at Business Insider has earned me nominations for the Pulitzer Prize, as well as nominations for SABEW, Loeb, ASME, Association of Healthcare Journalists, and NY Press Club awards.

I’m a frequent guest on CBS News, SiriusXM Business Radio, Fox 5 DC, WGN Chicago, and other outlets, and a contributor to Business Insider’s Big Business video series.

Before joining Business Insider, I covered breaking news and reproductive healthcare for The Dallas Morning News and wrote and edited for The Trace. I studied journalism and public policy at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I’m originally from Denver, Colorado — and I will take any opportunity to ski a Front Range powder day.
